The 24-70mm is a 'trombone' style zoom which extends physically when you zoom in from 24mm. The large front element accepts 82mm screw-in filters. Optical construction comprises 15 elements in 11 groups, and while we don't have any idea yet of optical quality, we'd expect it to be pretty competitive both in terms of performance and price.
